Patrick van der Smagt is interested in the neuroscience of movement, and using that in robotics via machine learning.  After his PhD he moved to the German Aerospace Center (DLR), then got a machine-learning professorship at  Technische Universität München (TUM), and now heads the fundamental AI Research Lab at Volkswagen Group.  He is the author of a bunch of papers on machine learning, robotics, movement, and neurointerfaces.
